The Road to Cherokee: A California Epic by Mary Ray King
Historical novel of families who traveled by wagon and settled in Cherokee

Book reviewer Dan Barnett, called The Road to Cherokee "a triumph" and named it his 2016 book of the year. It's the first time ANCHR has published a fictional work, which is the culmination of a 67-year-old dream to bring it to print by the family of the author, Mary Rae King.

It’s Butte County’s very own epic novel, rich in history and human drama. Written in 1947 and published for the very first time, The Road to Cherokee isn’t just a novel—it’s a historical epic that will sweep you into another time. ANCHR added photographs and annotated history to provide perspective for the modern reader about events that, while they happened generations ago, still resonate today.
