Karinen About the authors David W. Lantis, born on the Bluegrass fringe of Cincinnati, first visited California over 60 years ago. A permanent resident of California since 1949, he received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. Before joining the faculty at California State University, Chico, he had taught at various institutions in Southern California (University of Southern California, Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles Valley College, Compton College and California State University, Long Beach). He has authored sundry shorter works on California topics. His wife Helen, a librarian at Bidwell Junior High School, indexed California: The Pacific Connection. Rodney Steiner is a native of Los Angeles. He prepared his master's thesis about the San Gabriel Mountains at UCLA, then was awarded the Ph.D. at the University of Washington. He has taught at California State University, Long Beach, since 1953. He is the author of Los Angeles, The Centrifugal City (Kendall/Hunt, 1981) as well as shorter works. Arthur E. Karinen is a native of Mendocino County, California, and grew up in Fort Bragg. His M.A. thesis at U.C. Berkeley dealt with the historical geography of the Mendocino Coast. He was awarded the Ph.D. at the University of Maryland, where he taught for over a decade before joining the faculty at CSU, Chico. Dr. Karinen is an outstanding cartographer and hundreds of his maps have been published. Besides his interest in California, he is a leading American authority on Finland. |
