Once a Sourdough, Always a Sourdough! by Sherry Fox Clark
An early 1900s family seeks gold north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska

I made my first cruise line voyage to Alaska in the summer of 1954 at the age of six years old, accompanied by my grandmother Stella and my twelve year old sister Kay My grandmother wanted to show us her Alaska. I have so many wonderful memories of that trip that I will always cherish.

I had the opportunity to work aboard the S.S. Universal Explorer, cruising the Inside Passage, as a member of the beauty salon staff, for four summers 1998–2001. This gave me an even better view of the Far North firsthand.

I would never presume to call myself a "Sourdough," but can truly understand the passion of the pioneers for this land.

Since that experience I have had a driving desire to put my grandmother’s words into print and share with others my Alaskan heritage.
