Wooden Wings over the Golden Gate: Early Aviation in the San Francisco Bay Area 1910-1939
A detailed account of early flying, manufacturing, pioneers, and aviation events in the Bay Area.

About the Author

Allen Herr’s love of aviation history began when he was given his first “airplane book” at age nine. Now they number over a thousand. American history was his minor in college. He has written articles on aviation history for the American Aviation Historical Society Journal, Air Enthusiast Quarterly, and numerous Northern California historical society quarterlies. He has also written for the Water Well Journal. This is his second book published in a series; the first is Golden Wings Over The Feather River and his third is Ragwings Over The Sacramento River.

As a private pilot, Allen Herr has flown over eighteen hundred hours. He was a member of the International Aerobatic Club and the National Air-racing Group for many years. He has been a member of the American Aviation Historical Society and the Experimental Aircraft Association for forty-five years. Retired now from business, he writes of early aviation in Northern California 1909–1939 and American pilots who flew in the Spanish Civil War 1936–1939. He is an air-racing enthusiast and has been at the Reno air races every year since they began in 1964.
