Hello all. I’m Thia Wolf, a faculty member in the department of English. For the last two-and-a-half years, I have directed the First-Year Experience Program, which includes working directly with faculty in UNIV 101 and in Connections CourseLINK classes. My goal is to provide first-year students with engaging experiences during their entry year at our university. I have taught first-year students my entire college career—starting in graduate school when I taught the introductory writing course to entering freshmen. I was twenty-one years old at the time, so I felt closer to my students than to many of my colleagues and professors! Since then, I have spent almost all of my thirty years at universities working with first-year students both inside and outside of the classroom. My role in the First-Year Resource has been to write, to surround myself with smart students and insightful colleagues who critique my writing and who write many documents for this resource, and to investigate and include issues of importance to first-year students in the 101 text and in the course. --Dr. Thia Wolf
