Hops and Dreams: The Story of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. by Rob Burton
Two homebrewers open a microbrewery that achieves astonishing success

This history of the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, one of the most successful small breweries in America, tells the story of Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi and the development of their world renowned brewery. From their humble beginnings in 1980 to their current production of nearly 700,000 barrels per year, this volume chronicles the rise of the business, the development of their signature beers, and the building of their state of the art brewery in Chico, California. The work includes numerous behind the scenes looks at events and people associated with the brewery's success, as well as information about the facilities, a timeline and profiles of each brew. Burton is professor of English at California State University, Chico. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)

CSU, Chico, English professor Rob Burton has written a book detailing how a couple of homebrewers toiling in a rented warehouse in south Chico became the the sixth largest brewery in the United States. Burton chronicles the rise of the craft beer movement, the popularity of Sierra Nevada worldwide, and trailblazing social and sustainability concerns at a company once focused only on selling a good-tasting ale.

The book also tells the story of owner Ken Grossman whose genius for beer making may be matched only by his humility and common sense in the face of truly remarkable achievements. . . . --Joe Wills, Chico Statements
